Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a chronic, recurring skin condition that results in:
- Raised red patches with silvery scales
- It is also associated with joint pain and nail changes
Psoriasis is worldwide, and can develop in either gender at any age. The age of onset, however, is most commonly between 15-20 or 55-60 years old. Medical treatments include: topicals (moisturizers, corticosteroids with vitamin D, coal tar), phototherapy, systemic medications (cyclosporine, methotrexate). Naturopathic medicine addresses the underlying triggers of psoriasis and provides alternative, all-natural topicals for symptomatic relief. Protocols may include:
- Asian medicine
- Botanical medicine
- Diet counselling
- Homeopathy
- Hydrotherapy
- Lifestyle counselling
- Low-level laser therapy
- Nutraceuticals
Initial treatment takes 4-6 months, but due to the chronic nature of this condition, some elements of the protocol may need to be maintained long-term. Psoriasis is a challenging condition to treat, but success can result in a reduction/resolution of the lesions and joint pain.
